Kallappam Recipe | Kallappam with Yeast

I grow up eating lots of Kerala based breakfast/tiffin items since my native is close to the Kerala border. I can never survive without puttu and appams. It is my most comfort food and everybody at home loves it. Today's recipe Kallappam is traditionally made with Kallu(toddy) and since it is not widely available these days, we are using yeast to help with the fermentation. For appam's my mom-in-law makes homemade kallu using coconut water and sugar(check notes). We can use it for fermentation if you couldn't source yeast. These kallappams are really spongy, taste delicious with the coconut, cumin and onion flavour. If you love Kerala based tiffin items, then do check the following recipes as well.

Apple Halwa Recipe | How to make apple halwa

Hello everyone!! It's been more than a year since I posted anything new in this beautiful space of mine. I will be pushing myself to be more active in the coming days. Recently, I am very much active on Instagram, where I share my day-to-day cooking videos and meal plates. Also, I have a YouTube channel with a few videos and I will be sharing more video recipes as well. If you are not following me on Instagram please do it now. Also, do subscribe to my channel. I have not clicked any new recipes recently, but I have lots of recipes in my drafts that I clicked a year ago.
Today, I am sharing the apple halwa recipe. This recipe can never go wrong, but the only point we should be careful is the sugar quantity. Depending on the sweetness and the size of the apple, it should be adjusted. Also, choose the kind of apple that is not sour. Please check out other Halwa recipes from the blog in the below links:

Ulundhu Choru Recipe | Urad Dal Rice | Black Split Urad Dal Rice | Nagercoil Special Ulundhan Choru | Ulundhu Sadam

Today I am sharing a very healthy one-pot rice that is common in Nagercoil and Tirunelveli. The word 'Ulundhanchoru' brings me a lot of childhood memories and I was very emotional after making this rice. My mum was a full-time teacher, we always had a stay-at-home Nanny to take care of me. I fondly call her 'Aachi' and she is like my own grandmother. She makes this rice quite often at home and mum get to know about this through her. I was never fond of this rice during my teenage days. However, I used to eat with compulsion and mum advertise this as one of the healthy rice in the whole wide world 😄. Now, when mum and aachi is not around me, I was behind many people to get this recipe. Finally, a few weeks back, I tried it for the first time and it tasted exactly the same as my aachi's ulundhanchoru. The smell itself makes me feel nostalgic and I made it again today to post it here in the blog. It tastes so good with spicy fish kuzhambu or any non-veg kuzhambu. For vegetarians, Ellu Thogayal is the best combination for this rice. Do check out the video for this recipe and please subscribe to my channel for more videos. Let's move to the recipe:

Salmon Fish Kuzhambu Recipe | Fish Kuzhambu without Coconut | Seafood Recipes

I love my mum's fish kuzhambu the most and I always follow her recipe. She makes fish kuzhambu two ways, the one with coconut and the other one without coconut. I have posted the fish kuzhambu with coconut already here in the blog. Her fish kuzhambu without coconut is very spicy and it is a semi-dry thick gravy. She always pairs it with Nagercoil Verum Curry and it tastes so yum when we mix rice, verum curry and fish kuzhambu together. After coming to Sydney, I started buying salmon and it tastes so good when made this way. Hence, thought of sharing the recipe here and this kuzhambu recipe can be followed for any fish of your choice. I have posted my chithi's version of this curry already in the blog as fish curry with raw mango and also do check out my other seafood recipes from the blog here. Off to the recipe:

Pineapple Pomegranate Raita Recipe | Pineapple Raita | Pineapple Pome Raita | Raita Recipes

I grow up eating a lot of cucumber pachadi and beetroot pachadi since mum makes it very often. So Pachadi/kichadi and raita made with yoghurt base are my real weakness. Recently, I saw some super fresh pineapple and I wanted to try some recipes with that. As I have already made pineapple pachadi quite a few times, I tried this simple Pineapple pome raita and it goes well with any pulao or raita.  I have already shared the following raita recipes in the blog:

Peanut Butter Banana Fudge Brownie Recipe | Banana Fudge Brownie | Fudge Brownie

Happy New Year to all my readers and families!! Hope everyone is excited about the new year and has lots of resolutions to bring out the better us. As always, one of my new year resolutions is to be active in the blog with new posts frequently. I have shared very fewer blog posts in 2018 though I am pretty much active on Instagram. So, to start making up for that I am here with a recipe on the very first day. Today's recipe is an awesome idea to use leftover overripe bananas. At home, we don't like ripe bananas and hence I hunt for suggestions using the leftover bananas and I always end up making Banana Bread, Banana Muffin, Unniyappam, Banana Dosa or Sweet Bonda. Recently, I came across this Tasty video that explains this yummy fudge brownie and I gave it a try. It is a super quick recipe and it tastes really yummy. I have shared Chocolate Walnut Brownie and Eggless Walnut Brownie earlier in the blog.

Mor Kuzhambu Recipe | Vendakkai Mor Kuzhambu | Buttermilk Gravy

Mor Kuzhambu is one of Jany's favourites for rice. I always follow mom's recipe and it is in Kerala style, we like it very much. I have shared this recipe already here in the blog as Moru Curry with white pumpkin. I have shared another yoghurt gravy with Mango and you can find it as Mambazha Pulissery. However, I always wanted to try Tamilnadu style of mor kuzhambu that I had tasted in some of my friend's home. I got this recipe from Mallika Akka who was our cook when we were in Chennai. Let's learn the recipe with step-by-step pictures:

Romanian Meatballs Recipe | Chiftele | Meatballs

Today's recipe brings me so many amazing memories of our trip to Paris in 2015. We visited many places in Paris during our stay and once Jany's French friend and colleague Robert invited us to his home. We stayed in his home for a night before we went on a two-day trip to Lisieux with his family. That night Robert's wife Emilia served us yum dinner with French and Romanian dishes. (They were originally from Romania and settled in Paris). She served us these meatballs with rice and it was so delicious. I got this recipe from her before leaving Paris and tried it once after coming to Chennai. It turned out very well and I wanted to post it on the blog from then. However, I missed to post it here these many days. Recently, I found the handwritten recipe note(written in French and translated into English) handed over by Emilia. The very next day, I tried and clicked it. Finally, I am here with the recipe:

Jangri Recipe | Mini Jangri | How to make Jangri | Diwali Special Recipe

I never thought that I would make Jangri at home and the blogging journey is pushing me out of my comfort zone to explore more recipes. Last year I made Boondhi Ladoo and Tirunelveli Halwa, and I was jumping in joy when I achieved the perfect outcome. This year I was planning for Jangri and I tried it this Friday. It tasted so yummy; however, I was not satisfied with the shape and size. I made a big hole in the piping bag and the Jangri was very big than I expected. Also, I was struggling to take a decent photo and the output was not up to my satisfaction. So, today I made it again and I am really happy about the result. Do check out my other Diwali Collections too. Let's move to the recipe:

Inippu Sev Recipe | Sweet Sev | Cheeni Sev | Diwali Special Recipes

Hope everyone is busy thinking about Diwali snacks and if you are looking for more recipe ideas, please visit my collection of Diwali sweets & snacks. Today I am sharing yet another interesting recipe, Sweet Sev. This was one of my childhood favourite snacks that I lost interest when I grow up. However, Jany likes this and he prefers to eat it along with Spicy Karasev. Since he doesn't show much interest in payasam or sweets, I made sweet sev and kara sev for his birthday last year. That was the first time I made this sweet sev and it came out super delicious. From that time I was planning to click it for the blog and finally did it yesterday. Let's see the steps involved in making this yummy snack:

Coconut Ladoo Recipe | Coconut Ladoo with Condensed Milk | Diwali Special Recipe

If you are looking for some simple and easy sweet recipe for this Diwali, then this ladoo is a perfect choice. You can make it in bulk as it is not time-consuming. For the mentioned quantity in the recipe, it just took me 15 mins to make and I got around 16 ladoos. Even the beginner in cooking will not fail with this recipe as it does not involve any consistency checking. Yesterday, after sending Happy to school, I made this ladoo and clicked it. When Jany came for lunch, I gave him one ladoo and he liked it very much. He took the remaining ladoos to his office friends and they too loved it. Agra Petha Recipe | Ash Gourd Candy | Kumbalanga Sweet | Diwali Special Recipe

The exciting part of being a food blogger is to learn new recipes based on upcoming festivals. This year too I have planned new recipes and already started trying some, which I will be posting in the coming days. Today's recipe is from the drafts that I tried during the last Diwali and missed to post it here.  I am very much fond of this sweet during my childhood and we call it Kumbalanga (Ash gourd) Sweet. We buy this from Tirunelveli Arasan Bakery or Nagercoil Agarwal sweets. Once, my mama tried this Agra petha and shared a photo on WhatsApp, I was super tempted to try that immediately. However, finding Limestone/Sunnambu in Sydney is really hard and I never thought that I could find. I started looking for it in all the Indian shops around me and luckily I found it in a shop. When I tried the first time, it was a big disaster. I didn't lose hope and again tried it the next day. It came out really well and I am here with the recipe. Check out my already existing Diwali Sweets/Snacks from the blog. Let's see the preparation:

Potato Podimas Recipe | Urulai Podimas | Urulai Kizhangu Podimas

Most of us love to have potato in any form and I too love making dishes with it. I always make potato roast to go with sambhar rice and at times I pair with other vegetables to enhance the taste. I have already shared Cauliflower masala, Long Beans poriyal and Broccoli stir-fry with Potato. Recently, I came across this podimas recipe from a Bhramin friend of mine and I love it to the core. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I will make this Palak Paneer at home because I don't like curries that are dark green. However, I tasted this Palak Paneer at a Punjabi friend's house and it tasted so yum. I started googling about the recipe and made it the next weekend following the recipe from Hebbar's Kitchen. It came out so good and we all liked it and as always this post was lying in my drafts for more than a year now. Let's see the step-by-step preparations:

Peanut Jaggery Modak Recipe | Peanut Jaggery Mothagam | Peanut Jaggery Kozhukattai | Ganesh Chaturthi Special Recipes

Happy Ganesh Chathurthi to everyone celebrating. I had a great time making Ulundu Kara Kozhukattai that I posted yesterday and this Peanut Modak. I shared it with my friends and they gave a big thumbs up for this recipe. During one of our regular calls, my friend Gomathy was telling that she made this peanut kozhukattai as the after-school snack for her kids. Also, she told that she usually has this powdered jaggery and peanut filling in the fridge and it comes in handy for any quick sweet fix. So, when I was planning for Vinayagar chathurthi recipes, I called and got this recipe from her. She gave an amazing tip for making the outer layer really soft and it worked like a charm for me. Let's move to the preparation steps:

Ulundu Kara Kozhukattai Recipe | Ulundu Pidi Kozhukattai | Ganesh Chathurthi Recipes

Though we don't celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi at home, I have seen my mum making kozhukattai during this festival season. She makes Paal Kozhukattai, Arisi Pidi Kozhukattai and Therali Kozhukattai. When I was a kid, I don't prefer any of these kozhukattai and I started loving it when I grow up. I ask mum to make kozhukattai whenever I feel like eating it and to continue that tradition I am making kozhukattai now. Happy has slowly started showing interest in Paal kozhukattai and I want to introduce a variety of kozhukattai to her.  Today, I am sharing the recipe of ulundu kozhukattai that I saw recently in Rak's Kitchen. This can be made it for breakfast or dinner and it goes very well with coconut chutney or any other spicy chutney. Do check out the collection of my Ganesh Chaturthi recipes from the blog. Let us move to the preparation:

Palkova Recipe | How to make Palkova with Milk | Traditional Palkova | Krishna Jeyanthi Special Recipes

Palkova is one of my childhood favourite sweets and I still remember the days my maternal grandfather take me to buy palkova from the nearest bakery (Sun bakery). I have tried Palkova with condensed milk earlier and I always wanted to make it from scratch. During last Diwali, I made this and we loved it to the core. I missed to post it on time as always and finally, posting it as one of the Krishna Jayanthi Special Recipes for this year. It is time-consuming but worth giving it a try. Let's see the simple recipe which uses milk and sugar as the main ingredient.

Long Beans Potato Poriyal Recipe | Karamani Urulai poriyal | Karamani Potato Poriyal

Beans varieties are my least preferred vegetable for making poriyal. I can eat it only in the form of paruppu usili. When I was in Chennai, my neighbour used to give me fresh karamani (long beans) from their home garden. I always end up making usili with that and once I asked her about the dishes she makes with karamani. She gave this recipe with the combination of potato. I tried it the next day and we all loved it so much. Let's see the steps involved in making this yummy poriyal:

Egg Kothu Parotta Recipe | Mutta Kothu parotta | Parotta with Egg

Most of us love to eat parotta from the roadside shops, though we all know it is not healthy. The taste of that maida parotta is really yummy, especially the spicy kothu parotta with lots of onions and green chillies. In my native, we have a helper akka whose husband makes the yummiest parotta. So, whenever we go on vacation, he comes home and makes parotta for us in our kitchen at least once.  Last time when he made, I reserved few parotta to try kothu parotta. Though I have not followed the restaurant style method of mixing plain salna at the end, it tasted very delicious. This egg kothu parotta can be made in a jiffy if we have parotta in hand either frozen or fresh. This post was lying in my draft for more than a year now and finally, the time has come for it to go live:) Let's see the simple preparation steps:

Beans Paruppu Usili Recipe | Paruppu Usili | Beans Usili

I am a very picky eater during my school days and mum struggles a lot to feed any vegetable. I slowly started trying vegetables when I was in the hostel and even during that time I never bothered to try beans and I hate it the most. Once my colleague at TCS brought beans paruppu usili and it was so yum. I have tasted the usili rice and many other usili dishes from his lunchbox. After I started cooking, I got the recipe from his mum and tried it. We liked it very much and started making it once in a while. Today I am sharing the recipe here and off to the recipe:
