Paruppu Bonda & Getti Chutney| Dal Fritters with Coconut Chutney/ South Vs North Challenge(SNC)

After a long time I am posting a recipe for SNC and unfortunately this would be my last post since SNC is coming to an end. When Manju gave a chance to swap to Northern team, I am excited to try my own south indian recipes. I tried this paruppu bonda and getti chutney  hosted by Viji. It came out really well and we enjoyed it for our evening coffee.
Ingredients:
For Bonda
Bengal gram(Kadalai paruppu) - 1/2 Cup
Urad dal - 1/4 Cup
Dry red chillies - 3
Rice flour - 1 tbsp
Green chillies - 2(finely chopped)
Onions - 2(finely chopped)
Hing - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Coriander leaves - few
Fennel seeds - 1 tsp
Salt - As required
Oil - To deep fry
For Getti Chutney:
Coconut(scraped) - 1/4 Cup
Fried gram dal(Pottu kadalai) - 2 Tbsp
Green chillies - 2
Garlic - 2 cloves
Salt - To taste
Method:
1. Soak the Bengal gram for 1 hour and urad dal for 30 mins. Then grind the soaked dhals coarsely along with Fennel seeds and red chillies.
2. Transfer the ground mixture to a mixing bowl and along with this add the chopped onions, green chilli, curry leaves, coriander leaves. Add the rice flour and mix well. The batter should be thick like vada batter.
3. Take small amount of batter in your hand and gently slide it in hot oil. Allow it to cook until the shhh sound stops completely. Then take the bondas from oil and drain it in tissue paper.
4. For the chutney, grind all the ingredients with little water. The chutney consistency should be thick. Transfer it to a bowl.
Serve the yummy bondas with getti chutney when it is hot. This can be served along with evening coffee.
Points to remember:
  • Adding rice flour gives crispiness to bondas.
