Jeera Rice Recipe | Cumin Rice | How to make Jeera Rice

I always love mild flavoured rice when compared to spicy masala biryani. The white colour basmati rice fascinates me a lot and hence I prefer Ghee Rice, Fried Rice, Coconut Rice or any simple veg pulao (Peas Pulao). Today's recipe is about Jeera Rice, which is one of the popular restaurant special rice. I had tasted this in Sangeetha under North Indian lunch menu. This is a very easy to make recipe which we can prepare it in couple of minutes. I tried this at home to pair it with Butter Chicken and tastes yum. This goes well with dal, any spicy non-veg curry, Paneer Butter Masala, Mattar Paneer or veg kuruma.

Ingredients:
Basmati Rice – 1 cup
Boiling water – 1.5 cups
Salt - as required
Butter/Ghee – 1 tbsp
To Temper:
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Bay leaf – 1
Cardamom – 3
Cloves – 4
Cinnamon Stick – 1 inch
Black pepper corns – few or Green Chilli - 1(optional)
Method:
1. Wash and soak the rice for 30 minutes. In a pressure cooker pan, add the ghee/butter. Then temper it with the items under 'To Temper'. Drain the soaked rice from water and add it to the cooker, saute it for a minute.
2. Finally, add the boiling water and required salt. Close the cooker with the lid and pressure cook it for 2 whistles. Switch off the flame.
After the pressure releases, open and fluff the rice with the fork. Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves. Serve it with spicy curry or dal of your choice. I served it with Butter Chicken.
Points to remember:
  • Adding green chilli or pepper is purely optional. It doesn't change the flavour since we pair it with spicy curry.
  • Instead of pressure cooking, you can cook it in a closed pan until water is dried completely.
Warm Regards,
