Prawn Fritters Recipe | Chemmeen Vada | Eraal Vadai

I had a great weekend and I tried many interesting recipes this week. Today I tried Fish Biryani(I will be posting it soon) and Prawn Vada. Both came out very well and we had a great lunch today. The Prawn Fritters can be served as a starter and it is a kid friendly snack. Already I have posted a similar recipe with chicken which you can check it here. While I compose this post, Jany and Happy enjoys few left over vadai. Let's see the detailed preparation steps:
Ingredients:
Prawns - 250 grams(20 to 25 medium prawns)
Coconut(grated) - 3/4 cup
Shallots(small onion) - 6 to 4
Green Chilli - 2
Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
Garlic - 4 to 5 cloves
Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Fennel Seeds - 1 tsp
Rice flour - 1 tbsp
Salt - as required
Curry leaves - few
Oil - to deep fry
Method:
1. Clean and devein the prawns. Grind all the ingredients except rice flour and oil to a coarse paste. You can grind it in batches. I grinded prawns separately and other ingredients separately. Finally, I mixed everything together.
2. After grinding, add the rice flour and mix it once. Then make it into equal sized balls and flatten it as shown below.
3. Heat oil in a kadai and deep fry the vadai until it is golden brown. Remove it from oil and drain it in tissue paper.
The yummy and delicious vadai can be served as a starter. Kids will love it.
Points to remember:
  • If you don't prefer to grind the raw prawns, then you can cook it with little salt and turmeric powder. Then you can grind it along with other ingredients.
  • You can chop the prawns into small pieces before grinding.
  • I reduced the quantity of green chilli and made it as medium spicy since Happy can't have if it is too spicy. You can add as per your spice tolerance.
  • I garnished it with fried curry leaves.
Warm Regards,
