Pesarattu Dosa Recipe | Andhra Pesarattu | Whole Green Gram(Moong Dal) Dosa | Pachai Payaru Dosai

Pesarattu is an authentic Andhra special recipe that is mainly made with green gram. This is very nutritious and tasty too. In Andhra, they serve this with Upma and this combination is called as MLA Pesarattu. My friend suggested this recipe for dad since it is made with diabetic friendly green gram. So, I made this pesarattu on a weekend for dad and he liked it very much. We all liked it too and it is in our breakfast menu these days. Let's see the preparation of the yummy & nutritious dosa:
Ingredients:
Whole green moong dal(Green Gram) - 1 cup
Raw rice - 2 tblsp
Ginger - 1 inch piece
Green chillies - 4
Garlic -  3 cloves(Optional)
Onion - 1(Chopped finely to garnish)
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Salt - As required
Method:
1. Wash and soak the moong dal and raw rice for 8 hours or overnight. Drain the water and grind the dal, rice along with green chilli, ginger. If using garlic, grind it along with this. While grinding add enough water to get smooth batter.
 2. Transfer the batter to a vessel, add salt and asafoetida. Mix it well. The batter is now ready to make dosa and the consistency should be little thick than our normal dosa batter . Heat a dosa tava and spread a spoonful of batter in cirucular motion like we do for normal dosa. Sprinkle chopped onions on top of it.

3. If required drizzle little oil or ghee and flip to cook the other side. Once it is cooked, fold it into half and remove from tava.
Serve the yummy and healthy dosa with Coconut chutney or any chutney of your preference.

Points to remember:
  • The dosa will be more delicious,  if it is made with sprouted moong. Coriander leaves can be added while grinding.
  • Cumin seeds(Jeera) can also be mixed with the batter.
  • When I make for dad, I normally skip raw rice and there is no compromise in the taste. But the dosas will be very soft than crispy.
  • Ginger and asafoetida helps in digestion, don't miss to add it.
Warm Regards,
