I am posting some of the Onam sadya recipes this week. Last time when my mom in law came home, she brought kadachakka from our native. Though I have kadachakka theeyal recipe in hand, I like the way my mom in law makes this thoran. This is one of her staple recipes and I got the recipe from her. It turned out really yum and here we go for the recipe:
Ingredients:Kadachakka(Breadfruit) - 1/2
Salt - as required
To grind:
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Fennel seeds - 1 tsp
Garlic - 3 cloves
Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
To temper:
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Method:
1. Cut the kadachakka into 2 equal halfs. Peel the skin and remove the centre portion. Then chop it into small pieces.
2. Grind the items under 'To Grind' to a coarse mixture by adding little water. In a pan add some oil and allow the mustard seeds, curry leaves to crackle. Then add the ground mixture and cook till the raw smell leaves.
3. Then add the chopped bread fruit and mix well. Sprinkle required salt at this stage. Add little water, cook till it is tender and soft. It takes approximately 5 to 7 minutes.
