Puttu is one of my all-time favorite breakfast dishes. I love eating puttu with any combination, either sweet or spicy. Back in my hometown we prepare puttu for breakfast at least once in a week. But to make Jany eat puttu is one of my most difficult jobs. Once I have seen the preparation of chicken puttu in Asianet television and I wanted to give it a try. Being a chicken lover, Jany was very much impressed with this puttu and even he started eating all types of puttu. Do check out my Kerala style Puttu Kadala Curry recipe too.

1. Add salt to the puttu flour and mix well evenly. Add water little by little and make the flour wet/moist. Don't add too much or too less water. To check if the mix is in correct consistency, press the moistened mix with 2 fingers and see if it holds together. If lumps are formed, you can run it once in your blender. Keep this aside till we make the chicken masala.
2. Cook the chicken with little salt and pepper powder. Strain the water and shred the chicken.(Run it once in the pulse mode of your blender)
3. In a pan add some oil, and saute the onions till it turns golden brown. Then add the tomato and ginger garlic paste. Cook till the tomato is mushy. Now add the chilli, garam masala, turmeric and pepper powder and mix well. When the raw smell of the masala leaves add the shredded chicken and give a quick stir.
4. Filling the puttu maker: Put one tbsp of coconut as the bottom layer , Puttu mix as the next layer and chicken masala as the third layer. Continue this and fill till the puttu mould ends.

Serve it warm with Pappadam. Enjoy the chicken puttu with hot coffee as your Sunday morning breakfast.
- I have used the rice puttu flour for this chicken puttu. You can use any type of flour of your choice(like samba puttu, wheat puttu or ragi puttu)
- Apart from filling the coconut as layers, you can also mix a few tbsp of coconut with the puttu mix too.
- Using home made puttu maavu gives better results. I used homemade puttu powder prepared by my mom. I will share the preparation of puttu maavu after getting it from my mom.
