I have already posted Kerala style Cabbage Thoran and when I shared South Indian Fish Meals, this Cabbage Peas Poriyal was there on the plate. Few readers requested to post the recipe and hence I am posting it. This is one super quick recipe which we can make in a jiffy if we have chopped cabbage in hand. Let's move to the recipe:
Ingredients:Cabbage - 1.5 Cups(chopped finely)
Peas - 1/4 Cup(frozen or Fresh)
Onion - 1/2(chopped finely)
Green Chilli - 2
Ginger - 1/2 inch piece(chopped finely)
Grated Coconut - 1/4 Cup
Salt - as required
To Temper:
Coconut Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/2 tsp(optional)
Curry leaves - few
Method:
1. Chop or shred the cabbage finely. Similarly, chop the onion, green chilli and ginger finely. In a pan, add the oil and temper with the items under 'To Temper'. Then add the onion, green chilli and ginger.
2. When the onion turns transparent, add the cabbage and green peas. Sprinkle little water and cover cook for 8 to 10 mins. Then add the required salt and mix the grated coconut. Switch off the flame after 2 to 3 minutes.
Serve the simple poriyal with rice and any curry of your choice.

- Fresh peas and Frozen peas cook faster. You can add it directly to the cabbage. However, if you use dried peas, then soak it overnight and pressure cook it before adding it to the cabbage.
- Ginger helps in the digestion and hence don't skip it.
- Don't overcook and make the cabbage mushy.
