I love to make traditional snacks for Christmas rather than Cakes and Cookies since mum does it that way. Apart from making snacks like Achu Murukku, Munthiri Kothu, Adhirasam, Mullu Murukku and Sweet Diamond cuts, the only cake we focus for Christmas is Plum cake and we buy it from a famous bakery in Nagercoil. On the day of Christmas, we make many non-veg dishes along with Fruit Custard and Payasam, etc. I am receiving many requests for more cookies and cakes as Christmas special recipes. I tried few baked goodies this year too and I will be posting it in the coming days. Check out my other Cakes and Cookies too.
Ingredients:Plain flour/Maida - 2 and 1/4 cups
Butter - 1 Cup (softened)
Egg - 1
Brown sugar - 3/4 cup
White sugar - 3/4 cup
Vanilla essence - 1 tblsp
Baking Soda - 3/4 tsp
Salt - 3/4 tsp
Dark chocolate chips - 1 and 1/4 cups
Method:
1. In a mixing bowl, take the softened butter, brown sugar and White sugar. Add the vanilla essence along with this and cream everything well using an electric beater or handheld whisk. Then add the egg to this mixture and whisk it until well combined.
2. Meanwhile, add the baking soda, salt to the flour and sift it once for even mixing. Stir in the prepared flour and chocolate chip to the already whisked butter, sugar and egg mixture. Form a smooth dough.
3. Wrap the cookie dough in a plastic wrap and refrigerate it for an hour or until it is firm. Then form small balls out of the dough.
4. Arrange the balls on a tray lined with baking paper. Press each ball a little and leave enough space between the cookies. Refrigerate it again until it goes into the oven. Preheat the oven @180 degrees fir 10 minutes and bake the cookies at the same temperature for 10 to 12 minutes or until the ends start browning. Remove it from the oven and allow it to cool completely.
Store it in an airtight container and serve it along with milk or coffee. I adapted the recipe from here.

- In an airtight container, then cookies stay good for about 2 weeks. I got 36 small cookies for the mentioned quantity. If it is a little big, you can get a minimum of 24 cookies.
- If you prefer your cookie with lots of choco chips, you can add an extra 1/4 cup chips.
- You can also add a handful of chopped walnuts. I usually add it and skipped it this time.
- If you are not refrigerating the cookie dough then the cookie will spread a lot and it will be flattened. Also, the dough will be a little sticky and hence I suggest you for refrigerating before shaping the cookies.
- The dough stays good in the freezer for more than a month.
