Idichakka Thoran Recipe | Tender Jack fruit Stir Fry | Raw Jack fruit Thoran | Onam Sadya Recipe

In my native, different variety of Jackfruits is available and I love jackfruit in any form. I have already posted Chakka Pradhaman(Payasam) and Chakka Varatti(Jam) using ripened jackfruit. Apart from these sweet items, mom makes aviyal with jackfruit seeds and thoran with tender jackfruit. After coming to Sydney, I saw tender jackfruit in the Indian shop and immediately grabbed it to try this thoran. I thought of posting it before Onam as one of the special items in Onam Sadya menu. But, I couldn't post it on time. It is better late than never and I am here with the recipe of  the yummy and delicious thoran:

Yet another traditional and popular delicacy from 'God's Own Country'. I tried this pradhaman long back, when dad brought a very big Jackfruit from my hometown :). This is one of my favourite fruits. This is the first time I am trying a recipe with this. I got this recipe from my dad's friend's wife. She is very lovable and explains both the pradhaman and Jam very cleary. Here we go for the recipe:

The thoran which I am posting today gives me some nostalgic feeling about my maternal grandmother and my mom. In my opinion, they both are the best cooks I have ever met. In my childhood, I love to have this thoran whenever my grandmother prepares this. I got this recipe from the handwritten note shared by my mom. It is very simple and we can make it in a jiffy. Whenever I ran short of veggies, I prepare it in home. Let us go for this thoran preparation:

Olan Recipe | Kerala Olan | Onam Sadya Recipe

This week my mission is to try some Onam Sadya recipes. And, this post is an authentic Kerala Olan recipe which I tried two days back. Olan is a dish that is part of Kerala cuisine and any Onam Sadya is incomplete without this curry. It is prepared using ash gourd, cowpeas and coconut milk as the main ingredient. There are many variations of this curry which use yellow pumpkin alone or the combination of ash gourd and pumpkin. It is a very mild curry which goes well with any spicy side dish.

Aviyal Recipe | Onam Sadya Recipe

Today's post for Onam Sadya Recipe is Aviyal. From my childhood days, this is one of the side dishes which I often ask my mom to prepare. Mixed vegetables along with coconut mixture tastes heaven. In my hometown, whenever we visit Udipi International, the first thing I order is Adai Aviyal. It's a yum combo and aviyal is also a must for Onam Sadya. One of my friends, Saranya was asking about this recipe and this is especially for her.

Kerala Parippu Curry Recipe | Kerala Moong Dal curry | Onam Sadya Recipe

Parippu curry is an essential part of Onam Sadya. This is the first thing that is mixed with rice and ghee in Onam Sadya. Kerala style parippu curry is prepared using Moong dal and spiced coconut mixture.  I am a big fan of this Parippu Curry. I love to have this parippu curry with hot steamed rice and pappadam/appalam. Though Jany doesn't show much interest in parippu curry, I make it quite often for my sake :) In TamilNadu, we call it as Paruppu curry, which is mostly prepared using toor dal.

Beetroot Thoran/ Beetroot Poriyal Recipe/ Beetroot Stir fry

This is one of the very simple and easy to cook vegetables. Initially, I hate almost all the stir fry/Poriyal I make with cabbage, beetroot, carrot, beans ,etc. Later I found out that I overcook all the veggies adding more water. Now I have corrected myself and the Poriyal's I make comes out excellent. In my opinion, veggies should not be overcooked and it should be crunchy. It should be cooked by sprinkling less water and within a few minutes, it should be removed from the flame. Grating beetroot helps me cook fast and here we go for the recipe of the fastest Poriyal :)
